How Much Does Etsy Really Cost? A Complete 2026 Fee Breakdown

Most sellers can tell you Etsy takes 6.5%. Far fewer can tell you what they actually netted on last week's orders — because 6.5% is one of at least three charges that land on every single sale, and depending on where your shop is registered, there may be a fourth.

None of this is hidden. It's all published by Etsy. It's just spread across several help articles, quoted inconsistently by third-party sites, and easy to underestimate until you work through a real order. So let's work through one.

The three fees on every sale

Whatever you sell and wherever you're based, three charges apply to essentially every transaction.

• Listing fee — $0.20 USD. Charged when you publish a listing, and again each time one sells or auto-renews. It's a flat USD amount everywhere, regardless of your shop's currency.
• Transaction fee — 6.5%. This is the headline number. Note what it applies to: the total order amount — item price plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge the buyer, not just the item price.
• Payment processing fee — varies by country. A percentage plus a fixed amount, and the part most sellers get wrong, because the rate depends on where your bank account is.

The 6.5% applying to shipping is the single most common miscalculation we see. If you charge $6 shipping on a $20 item, Etsy's transaction fee is calculated on $26, not $20.

Payment processing, by country

This is where a lot of published advice goes wrong. Etsy sets payment processing rates per country, and they are not a single global number.

If you sell from Türkiye, check that figure against whatever you've read elsewhere. Several widely-shared fee guides list Türkiye at the EU's 4% + €0.30. Etsy's own help article gives 6.5% + 14 TRY — a structurally different rate, not just a different fixed fee. On a ₺550 order that's the difference between roughly ₺22 and roughly ₺50.

The fee that only applies in some countries

Etsy charges a Regulatory Operating fee to sellers in a specific set of countries, calculated on the item price plus shipping. It exists in some EU countries and not others, which is why a blanket “EU rate” is misleading.

What a real order looks like

Take a US seller with a $25 item and $5 shipping charged to the buyer — a $30 order.

So $3.30 on a $30 order — about 11%, not 6.5%. If your materials and production cost $8, you're left with $18.70 before your own shipping costs, and that's the number worth building your pricing on.

The same order sold from Türkiye works out differently. On a ₺550 order (₺500 item, ₺50 shipping): ₺35.75 transaction, ₺49.75 payment processing, ₺9.19 regulatory operating fee — roughly ₺94.69, plus the $0.20 listing fee. Proportionally higher, and almost entirely down to that payment processing rate.

Offsite Ads: the one that surprises people

Offsite Ads is a separate charge, and it's the one most likely to produce an unpleasant surprise, because it's large and it's conditional.

• Etsy advertises your listings on external platforms. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, the order is attributed to Offsite Ads.
• The fee is 15% of the order total if your shop has made under $10,000 USD in any consecutive 365-day period, and a discounted 12% once you're at or above that threshold.
• It's capped: the Offsite Ads fee for any individual order will never exceed $100 USD.
• Below the $10,000 threshold, participation is optional and you can opt out. At or above it, participation is required.

On that same $30 US order, an attributed Offsite Ads sale at 15% adds $4.50 — taking total fees from $3.30 to $7.80, and your margin from roughly 62% to roughly 47% on an $8 cost of goods. That's not necessarily a bad trade for a sale you wouldn't otherwise have made, but it should be a decision, not a discovery.

What this adds up to

For a typical US seller with no Offsite Ads attribution, expect somewhere around 10–12% of the order total in Etsy fees rather than the headline 6.5%. Small orders skew higher, because the $0.20 listing fee and the fixed part of payment processing don't shrink with the order. Sellers in Türkiye, and in the countries carrying a regulatory operating fee, should expect meaningfully more.

Two things follow from that. First, the fixed components mean very low-priced listings give up a disproportionate share to fees — worth checking before you build a strategy around them. Second, since the transaction fee applies to shipping too, “free shipping” priced into the item isn't fee-free; it just moves which line the money comes out of.
